FLORIDA ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT THINKING (FAST) STAR EARLY LITERACY | VPK Help

The Coordinated Screening and Progress Monitoring Program is the statewide, standardized program known as Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Star Early Literacy. It is implemented in all VPK programs as required by s. 1002.68, F.S., and used to assess student achievement of the performance standards established in s. 1002.67(1)(a), F.S., in early literacy and mathematics.

VPK Programs (school-year and summer) began implementation of the FAST Star Early Literacy in the 2022-2023 VPK Program Year.

Administration Schedule:

Progress Monitoring testing windows are based on Instructional Dates on the certified VPK Calendar. Any changes to the VPK Calendar will impact the classroom’s progress monitoring dates.

Programs that have 83 or more instructional days

  • Progress Monitoring 1 (PM1)- First 30 Instructional Days of VPK
  • Progress Monitoring 2 (PM2)- Mid Program Year (Between 40%-60%) of the program hours)
  • Progress Monitoring 3 (PM3)- Last 30 Instructional Days of VPK

Programs that have 82 or fewer instructional days

  • Progress Monitoring 1 (PM1)- The first ten (10) instructional days of the VPK class schedule beginning with the first VPK instructional day.
  • Progress Monitoring 2 (PM2)- Mid Program Year (Between 40%-60%) of the program hours)
  • Progress Monitoring 3 (PM3)- The last ten (10) instructional days of the VPK class schedule ending on the last VPK instructional day

Training Requirements

To be qualified as a test administrator, an individual must be employed by a private VPK provider or school district; and complete, and document completion of, professional development training that is designed to ensure the proper administration of the assessment.

  • Training must be completed Yearly.

Required test administrator training is available through Renaissance-U: FAST Star Early Literacy Renaissance-U Enrollment Guidance (PDF) (Updated 10/24/23).

Required Training Documentation

Each center must upload the below documents for each test administrator  to the document library in the Provider Portal under the indicated FAST Training folder:

  1. Certificate of Completion for VPK FAST Star Early Literacy Test Administrators_24-25
